Nearly 1 in 6 Americans are affected by foodborne disease each year. This is a staggering statistic, and underscores why food safety matters each and every day.

Whether you’re a home cook, young adult, caregiver, or simply someone looking to prevent foodborne illnesses, following a few simple steps when preparing food-- Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill—are essential to protecting the health of those we love and reducing the risk of foodborne illness.

Here are some simple steps to prevent foodborne illness in the home.

Everyday actions--from handwashing to proper cooking temperatures—matter.  Because food safety behavior isn’t seasonal—it’s essential.
