Maintaining a balanced lifestyle can often feel difficult, complicated, and yet one more “ought to” in our already busy lives. However, prioritizing your well-being doesn’t have to be tedious or burdensome.
In fact, implementing healthy habits can be an opportunity for fun and education for the family and can easily fit into even the busiest of schedules. We know from trusted research that meals at home with friends or family support our health and well-being.
In a landscape where prioritizing health can often feel intimidating, the FMI Foundation has created a resource that can help by sparking fun and creative conversations around healthy habits. This month, the FMI Foundation is excited to share a new Table Talk placemat in collaboration with FMI's Health & Well-being team, the first of a monthly series in 2026.
Our Health & Well-being Table Talk Placemat is full of questions to engage all ages in meaningful conversation around food and health. Whether it’s reflecting on your favorite mealtime memories, sharing your favorite food combinations, or planning your dream garden, discussions around food, nutrition, and health don’t need to be complicated or judgmental. Mealtime conversations about food and nutrition provide an opportunity to establish simple, life-long habits to support our health that loved ones can help encourage.
Next time you’re sitting down for a meal with family or friends, print out a few of the Health & Well-being Table Talk Placemats to spark some light-hearted, but meaningful conversation around healthy eating. Learn more about the food preferences and quirks of your loved ones, share a few laughs, and speculate about some fun and easy ways we can all better maintain balance in our lives over a delicious meal.
Spending time with community is as important a healthy habit as any other, so why not pair quality time with conversations around food and health?
