Results of the FMI member satisfaction survey show where FMI has succeeded and how we can continue to improve your membership experience.
By: Dan Ratner, Senior Director, Member Services, FMI

In a previous blog post, we shared some overall (remarkable) ratings and insights from a recent FMI member satisfaction survey. Members provided feedback on the reasons they joined FMI, what they found valuable, and their preferences when receiving communications from FMI. Our final grades were exemplary.
Where FMI Excels
When asked about the reasons they joined FMI and remain a member, 74% of respondents ranked “industry collaboration” as a major reason for being affiliated with FMI. “FMI being the voice of the food industry” (70%) and “government relations” (70%) were close behind in the second and third rated reasons, respectively, for being an FMI member.
More than 70% chose an FMI event as a major reason for joining the food industry association. Nearly three out of four FMI members attended an FMI event in the past year, and 71% are likely to attend an FMI event in the coming year.
Communication is Key
Members find value in a variety of communications from FMI. Nearly nine out of 10 members find the “timely updates on important topics” very or extremely valuable. Other highly rated communications were “updates on research & insights reports” and “industry/FMI event information.” Members download multiple research reports each year and share them with an average of four colleagues.
FMI members prefer email as their method of communication by a large margin (91%) over all other communication vehicles (44% and lower).
Advancement
The FMI membership team always appreciates hearing from members and receiving feedback on their experience. Like any other report card, the data will help us learn more, improve what we do and how we do it, and take the FMI membership experience to the next level.
