Arlington, VA – Today, FMI – The Food Industry Association endorsed the Reduce Food Loss and Waste Act introduced by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that would establish a voluntary program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture granting certification to businesses that commit to food waste reduction in their supply chains. FMI President and CEO Leslie G. Sarasin offered the following statement.
“Food loss and waste occurs at every stage of the supply chain and carries financial, environmental and social impacts that need to be addressed. The Reduce Food Loss and Waste Act represents a terrific opportunity to recognize everyone in the supply chain – including food manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers – that have taken steps to reduce food waste and encourage more companies to join these efforts. FMI looks forward to working with Senators Durbin and Grassley, as well as our industry and public sector partners, to advance this legislation.”
