Playbook Embraces 2022 Earth Day Theme through Investments in Responsible Sourcing
Arlington, VA - FMI - The Food Industry Association recognizes the efforts of its members to reduce emissions, eliminate waste and work to end hunger. In advance of Earth Day 2022, FMI presents our industry-sponsored Sustainable Packaging Playbook, which serves as a strategy document to assist food retailers and their suppliers in advancing efficient design, responsible sourcing and circular systems for packaging.
“We recognize it’s a challenging time for our supply chain to be considering packaging alternatives, but we hope to advance conversations that support the food industry of the future and offer alternative sources when common materials might be harder to find,” FMI Vice President, Tax, Trade, Sustainability & Policy Development Andy Harig said. “This playbook offers practical application to consider packaging choices that protect the health of shoppers while improving material health, supporting the health of the environment and promoting healthful innovation among trading partners.”
Harig concluded, “FMI embraces the 2022 Earth Day theme, ‘Invest in our Planet™,’ as we continue to identify solutions for businesses that meet the needs of customers and communities they serve.”
The Sustainable Packaging Playbook was made possible by Albertsons Companies, Aldi and Wakefern Food Corp. and supported by the FMI Foundation and RILA.
Members of the trade media may request a copy of the Sustainable Packaging Playbook through media@fmi.org.
