FMI Commends USDA, FDA Memorandum of Understanding on Produce Processing

Jennifer Hatcher, chief public policy officer at FMI – The Food Industry Association, applauds the recently announced agreement between the USDA and FDA in an effort to strengthen U.S. food supply chain protections during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hatcher said:

“FMI appreciates the proactive action that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are taking today with this memorandum of understanding to prevent any future disruptions to the food supply in both USDA and FDA-regulated facilities. Consumer concern about COVID-19 and its impact on food for the home continues to decline from its peak level measured in early April, even as many Americans remain worried about the supply chain, as reported in our U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends COVID-19 Tracker survey.

"Collaborative and forward-thinking efforts between federal agencies will help ensure the supply chain remains nimble and resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reassures American shoppers that the shelves in their grocery stores will be stocked."
