On Tuesday, December 18th, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) posted a 30-day notice for comment on an Hours of Service (HOS) exemption request made by the American Bakers Association (ABA) and the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) regarding delivery of essential food staples ahead of a natural disaster. On behalf of our retail and wholesale members, the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) would like to align our association in support of the petition presented by the ABA and the IDFA, for an exemption to the hours-of service regulations at 49 C.F.R. Part 395 exempting deliveries of essential food staples in advance of anticipated natural disasters or other emergency conditions, in order to help with emergency preparations.
