Origins:
Helping their neighbors in need, even when those neighbors are thousands of miles away in Puerto Rico, is nothing new for the Western New York community. On Friday, October 6, 2017 Tops Friendly Markets along with the Salvation Army and partners WGRZ-TV, Channel 2, and Town Square Media joined forces to help raise much needed funds for the victims of Hurricane Maria. From 11:00 am until 7:00 pm donations from all across the community poured into four TOPS locations (Orchard Park, Buffalo, Amherst, and Cheektowaga).
Contribution:
In just one day an astounding $25,262.24 was raised. Tops Friendly Markets and the Perna Family Owned Niagara Street TOPS donated a total of $5,000 to the relief efforts as well. TOPS philosophy of Neighbors Helping Neighbors is something that has truly been at the forefront of the company’s efforts over the past several months.
Objectives:
To assist those in need of much needed supplies in Hurricane stricken Puerto Rico.
Impact:
100% of the Hurricane Relief donations will specifically help those in Puerto Rico in areas such as San Juan, Loiza, Fajardo, Humacao, Guayama, Ponce, Areciro, Mayaguez, Penuelas, and Caguas. Thanks to the partnership with the Salvation Army they will ensure that the over $25,000 that was raised will go to support those who need it most.
Quote:
“The morning kicked off at the Buffalo location with a surprise corporate donation from Your Care who made a $1,000 contribution and the momentum just kept going from there,” said Frank Curci, chairman and CEO for TOPS. “From pocket change to dollar bills, every donation makes a significant impact for those who are without food, clothing, water, and shelter. We are just so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.”
If it wasn't for the communities support and our partners we would never have been able to raise the much needed funds to help the people of Puerto Rico start to recover from this devastation of Hurricane Maria. 100% of the Hurricane Relief donations will specifically help those in Puerto Rico in areas such as San Juan, Loiza, Fajardo, Humacao, Guayama, Ponce, Areciro, Mayaguez, Penuelas, and Caguas.
