BGC’s Annual Donation Campaigns

Company : Brookshire Grocery Company
Program category : Food Insecurity

Origins:

Since 1982, Brookshires Grocery Company (BGC) has supported hunger relief efforts through its annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive, an event launched in partnership with the Rose City Kiwanis Club in Tyler, Texas. Held each holiday season, the program distributes about 500,000 pounds of food and more than $230,000 in monetary donations across more than 175 communities served by the BGC’s stores. During the eight-week campaign, all store locations collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for local food pantries and service organizations. Funds raised are used to purchase additional food for community distribution. In 2024, BGC expanded its impact by launching Compassion in Action, a summer food drive, designed to be more labor-friendly while continuing to drive sales and support. The new initiative runs annually for 3 weeks during Spring or Summer months. It offers monetary donation options, with all proceeds benefiting local food banks and pantries to restock shelves during the summer, a critical time for hunger relief. In addition, BGC has contributed nearly $100,000 since 2024 to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma through its Food 2 Families campaign.

Contribution:

Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is dedicated to making a difference in the communities we serve. The company provides funds annually to numerous local charitable organizations that support hunger relief, education, health, family wellbeing, first responders, military and veterans. BGC has contributed significantly to hunger relief efforts through its annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive, Compassion in Action and Food 2 Families program. Each year, approximately 500,000 pounds of food, plus more than $230,000 in monetary donations, are collected and distributed to local food pantries and service organizations across more than 175 communities. Over the past two years, BGC donated a combined $95,000 to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma through the Food 2 Families campaign. Community participation is strong, with customers supporting the drives by purchasing pre-assembled food bags or making monetary donations at checkout. Every dollar raised goes directly to local food banks to help restock shelves and serve families in need.

Objectives:

These programs aim to combat food insecurity by supporting local food banks and service organizations through seasonal food and fund drives. These drives’ primary objectives are to collect non-perishable food and monetary donations to help individuals and families in need and to help feed our neighbors in the communities we serve. These programs also seek to engage customers and employees in community support efforts by offering convenient in-store donation options, such as pre-assembled food bags and scan coupons at checkout. By partnering with local service organizations, these programs ensure donations are efficiently distributed where they’re needed most. They also focus on increasing access to food during high-need periods, including the holiday season and summer months, when food donations often decline. Overall, the initiative reflects BGC’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community impact.

Impact:

BGC’s food donation programs have made a measurable impact on hunger relief across its service areas. Each year, approximately 500,000 pounds of food and more than $230,000 in monetary donations are collected and distributed to families in need, supporting more than 175 communities the company serves. This scale of donation is made possible through strong in-store engagement, strategic partnerships with local food banks and service organizations, and customer participation. Key program elements that drive success include pre-assembled grab bags for purchase, $10 scan coupons, and open-ended monetary donations at checkout, all designed to make giving easy and accessible for our customers. In 2024 and 2025, the Company contributed a combined $95,000 to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma through the Food 2 Families campaign, directly supporting food acquisition and distribution. The addition of Compassion in Action helps address seasonal gaps in support, particularly in summer months when donations decline. By aligning donation drives with community needs and simplifying the giving process, BGC ensures consistent, wide-reaching impact.
