In presenting the award, FMI President and CEO Tim Hammonds remarked that Mr. Pease has distinguished himself in two areas: enriching the Midwinter conference with outstanding and timely speakers for 15 years, and serving as one of the first and largest donors to the FMI Foundation and its food safety education efforts.
Midwinter speakers who Mr. Pease sponsored include President Jimmy Carter, Prime Minister John Major and General Norman Schwarzkopf. This year, Mr. Pease brought in Lee Hamilton, co-chair of the 9/11 Commission, which helped push Congress to reform the nation’s intelligence community.
Mr. Pease is a major contributor to the FMI Foundation, which funds major food safety programs such as the Fight BAC!® public education campaign. This effort has reached millions of people through the media, in schools, in stores and at government and industry events.
“Fight BAC!® was launched with a multimillion-dollar grant from the FMI Foundation through the generosity of people like Herb, who personally donated half a million dollars,” Hammonds said. “Of course, many others gave significant sums. But this program would not have enjoyed such immediate success had it not been for the people and companies who endowed it with instant credibility.”
